Incidents Involving Texting and Driving Are Not Decreasing in Austin

Despite the official ban of handheld cell phone devices while driving in Austin, it seems the occurrence of accidents caused by this type of distracted driving have not decreased in the past year. Numbers from the Municipal Court show that since February of 2015, officers have issued 5,703 citations for electronic device use while driving. According to authorities, the rate of violations has remained steady regardless of the texting-while-driving ban which went into effect on January 1, 2015.

It seems evident to those who deal with the consequences of distracted driving that the people of Austin are not paying attention to the law, as more and more distracted driving collisions seem to be taking place.

When innocent drivers and their passengers are harmed by irresponsible individuals who choose not to pay attention to the road, the victims deserve justice.
