Texas Authorities To Address Increasing Child Drowning Cases
After experiencing a spike in child drowning incidents this year, Texas authorities recently organized an event to bring awareness to and prevent child drowning incidents, an August 7 article of 19KVTX reported.
With the help of Longview Police and Fire Department, the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services held the “Summer Safety” event on August 6. Texas authorities organized this event to help prevent child drowning. In 2015 alone, there have been 56 cases of drowning in Texas, 44 percent of which happened in Smith and Gregg Counties. Family and Protective Services spokesperson Shari Pulliam stressed the importance of closely watching children at the pool – especially in private pools, where most drowning incidents occur.
